Without our dogs we would soon be out of the Boer goat and meat goat business! Our area is loaded with coyotes, fox, hawks, owls, and wild dogs, but we have yet to lose one of our goats to a predator. There have been some who tried but they have not yet got past Big Dog, Cuddles, Trixie, Conan (we call him Buddy) or Princess. Buddy and Princess are both AKC registered Anatolian Shepherds. Trixie and Cuddles are both full blood Great Pyrenees (no papers) and Big Dog is 7/8 Anatolian Shepherd & 1/8 Great Pyrenees.
What do Montana, Florida, West Virginia, Mississippi, and Alabama all have in common? Lookout Mountian Boer Goat Farm shipped or delivered dogs to customers in each of these states in 2009. References absolutely available!
Trixie (not pictured) will never have pups but does a wonderful job. She works by herself taking care of 20-25 goats. She is mature and is completely trustworthy around kids and young does. A note here to the wise: Any immature dog, no matter the breed or the heritage of its ancestors in taking care of goats, will become bored and is prone to 'playing' with young goats (one that will run from it) until it kills the goat. I never put an IMMATURE dog with kids. I also make sure I supervise the first time a goat is kidded in the dog's presence. Don't learn the hard way. Put your IMMATURE dogs with MATURE goats!
Our AKC Anatolians (sire and dam pictured below) whelped in December 2009.We have 5 males and 4 females. We like to keep them until they are at least 8 weeks old. Call now for pictures or come to the farm and look them over. They are beautiful dogs and very active and demonstrative. They believe in doing their job, keeping critters out of the goat pastures. They are very large (long, deep and broad). Better yet, they like all our animals here at Lookout Mountian Boer Goat Farm, are healthy.
